Backpackineers started with one mischievous cat, Ollie, whose adventures were getting a little too wild. To keep him safe, we swapped free roaming for leash-and-harness adventures — and discovered a whole new world of hiking, kayaking, and exploring with cats. Now, we’re sharing that journey so you and your cat can find adventure together.
Welcome to Backpackineers! We believe every cat has the potential to be more than a house pet — they can be a true adventure companion. Our own journey started with Ollie, a bold orange tabby whose love for mischief (and knack for finding trouble) meant that free roaming wasn’t safe for him. To keep him happy and healthy, we turned to supervised outdoor adventures with a harness and leash — a shift that opened the door to a whole new way of life for both our cats and us.
What began as a creative solution for Ollie soon became a passion. Together with Sweet Pea, our trailblazing gray-and-white explorer, we discovered the joy of hiking, camping, paddling, and climbing with our cats by our side. Along the way, we learned what works, what doesn’t, and how to keep our feline friends both safe and confident outdoors.
Backpackineers grew out of these experiences and led to The Adventure Cat Training Guide, a step-by-step resource blending proven training techniques with real-world trail lessons. But it’s more than just a guide — it’s a community for cat lovers who dream of exploring the great outdoors with their companions.
